Peel House Bed and Breakfast

Housed within Girvan's historic former Police Station on Montgomerie Street, Peel House Bed and Breakfast is much more than just a place to stay. It's a lovingly restored building with a fascinating past, now offering visitors a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, and a true taste of Ayrshire hospitality.

Behind Peel House are Chris and Lisa, who opened the doors to their family-run B&B almost two years ago. Their journey, however, began three years earlier when they purchased the old Police Station and spent an entire year carefully transforming it into both their home and a welcoming retreat for guests.

After spending their careers caring for others, the move into hospitality felt like a natural next step. Chris worked as a registered nurse and nurse specialist for 30 years, while Lisa's career spanned healthcare, pharmacies, and schools. Together, they had always dreamed of running either a café or a bed and breakfast, and when they discovered the character-filled former Police Station, they knew they had found the perfect place.

A Home Away From Home

From day one, Chris and Lisa's goal has been simple: to create a home-away-from-home experience where every guest feels genuinely welcomed.

That personal touch is reflected throughout Peel House. Guests frequently comment on the beautifully presented rooms, spotless accommodation, and the care that has gone into every detail. Breakfast has become something of a signature, with Chris and Lisa preparing as much as possible from scratch. Homemade bread, pancakes, English muffins, and jams regularly feature on the menu, while other ingredients are sourced from local Ayrshire producers wherever possible.

It's these thoughtful touches that turn a stay into an experience.

Supporting the Local Community

Chris and Lisa's commitment extends far beyond their front door.

In recognition of their efforts to reduce their environmental impact while supporting local businesses, heritage, and the wider community, Peel House was awarded a Certification Mark from the Galloway and South Ayrshire Biosphere last year.

Their philosophy is simple: celebrate what makes this area special and encourage visitors to experience it for themselves.

Why Girvan?

When asked what they love most about living in Girvan, the answer comes without hesitation: the people.

They describe Girvan as a town with a genuine sense of community—something they hadn't experienced while living in a suburban area. Friendly neighbours, welcoming faces, and even conversations sparked while walking dogs along the promenade have helped them feel truly at home.

They also believe Girvan still holds the pride of its rich history and are encouraged by the many individuals and organisations working hard to help the town thrive once again.

Of course, the spectacular surroundings are an added bonus. Regular walks along the seafront, with breathtaking views across the Firth of Clyde to the unmistakable silhouette of Ailsa Craig, are just one of the many reasons they've fallen in love with the area.
