Supporting Carrick Rugby Holiday Camps in Girvan

Girvan Town Team is pleased to award a £250 grant, in partnership with the National Lottery Community Fund, to Carrick Rugby Football Club in support of their upcoming Easter Holiday Camp in Girvan.

Our thanks to Carrick Rugby Football Club for supplying photographs and ensuring that the appropriate permissions are in place for sharing images of the children involved.

Carrick Rugby, established in 1978, has long been at the heart of sport and community development across South Ayrshire. Using rugby as a vehicle for inclusion, wellbeing and personal growth, the club provides structured programmes for young people aged 5–18, with a particular focus on rural and isolated communities throughout North and South Carrick.

The funding will support catering at the club’s Easter Camp, taking place in Girvan on 15th and 16th April. As part of their commitment to accessibility and inclusion, Carrick Rugby provides free lunches and snacks to all young people attending their holiday camps — ensuring every child can take part fully in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The camps offer far more than sport. They provide a safe, structured and active space during the school holidays — a time that can otherwise feel isolating for some young people. The sessions help build friendships, confidence and resilience, and are especially valuable for those transitioning from primary to secondary school.

Volunteering is also central to the project. Young coaches gain leadership experience, develop new skills and can work towards Youth Accreditation awards, while parents and community members are encouraged to get involved — strengthening local connections and community networks.

Carrick Rugby shared their thanks:

“Carrick Rugby would like to say a huge thank you to Girvan Town Team for supporting our annual Easter camp in Girvan with a £250 award towards the cost of catering for our young people.

The camps will benefit the young people attending and also those volunteering as coaches in a fully inclusive, multi-age, family-friendly activity. There is no division between children from diverse backgrounds or areas and this sense of inclusion makes for a fantastic atmosphere.

Our young coaches and volunteers delivering the project do an outstanding job and are able to build relationships that encourage young people to continue and commit to regular training and playing opportunities — improving not only physical health but also mental health, social development and overall wellbeing.”

Girvan Town Team wishes Carrick Rugby every success with this year’s camps and look forward to seeing the positive impact once again across our community.
