Growing Skills, Confidence and Community in Girvan
Girvan Town Team is pleased to support Crag Community Arts with a £250 grant, in partnership with the National Lottery Community Fund, towards their Growing Together Gardening Group.
Based at The Wee School Art Space, the Growing Together group was established in 2023 as a welcoming, social and wellbeing-focused gardening initiative. The group brings people together to learn new skills, build confidence and enjoy the benefits of growing their own produce in a supportive community environment.
Participants take part in a range of activities, including planting, composting, and propagation, while also developing broader skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and planning. For many, the group has become much more than a gardening project — offering friendship, purpose, and a positive boost to wellbeing.
The funding will support the development of additional raised beds and improvements around the group’s polytunnel, helping to expand the growing space and extend the gardening season. This will allow the group to grow a wider variety of vegetables and plants, encourage healthy eating, and provide more opportunities for learning throughout the year.
Importantly, the improvements will also add an accessible work surface, enabling members with limited mobility to participate and contribute their skills.
Crag Community Arts shared their thanks:
“Our Growing Together Gardening Group would like to extend a huge thank you to Girvan Town Team for supporting our project. The support received will provide our group with vital growing space for the season ahead and skills development opportunities for everyone involved.”
The group meets on Tuesdays between 11 am and 1 pm at The Wee School Art Space, 15 Henrietta Street, Girvan KA26 9AL. New members are always welcome.
Girvan Town Team looks forward to seeing the Growing Together group continue to flourish in the months ahead.
