Girvan Town Team Proud to Support South Ayrshire Field of Heroes Installation

Girvan Town Team is honoured to sponsor a silhouette at the upcoming South Ayrshire Field of Heroes installation, taking place in Ayr this July.

Created by Standing with Giants, this powerful and moving art installation commemorates the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and pays tribute to the men and women of South Ayrshire who contributed to the war effort during the Great War.

The installation will feature 130 life-sized military silhouettes displayed throughout Wellington Square in Ayr, creating a striking visual reminder of sacrifice, courage, and remembrance.

Each silhouette includes a QR code, allowing visitors to listen to the personal stories of local soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Daily guided tours will also take place at 2pm, led by experts from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission alongside local historians, offering further insight into the lives and histories behind the installation.

This free immersive display provides an important opportunity for reflection, remembrance, and education within the local community. It serves not only as a tribute to those who served, but also as a chance for future generations to connect with and understand the human stories behind the history.
