Supporting Community Ambition: The South Project
Girvan Town Team is pleased to award a £250 grant, in partnership with the National Lottery Community Fund, to The South Parish Church Community Purchase Group — a newly formed local organisation with an ambitious plan to bring one of Girvan’s most recognisable buildings back into community use.
Building for the Future
The group’s long-term vision is to transform the former South Parish Church into a vibrant, multi-purpose venue for performances, functions, and community events — creating a much-needed space for gatherings and cultural activity in the heart of Girvan.
They also propose to develop a 30-bed bunkhouse, helping to make the project financially sustainable while filling a gap in Girvan’s visitor accommodation options.
Funding from Girvan Town Team will provide vital early-stage support, enabling the group to take the first important steps towards making their plans a reality. This includes progressing the initial legal and preparatory processes involved in securing the building for community ownership.
A Community-Led Approach
The project reflects the strong spirit of local collaboration that defines Girvan. Community members have already held an open day and consultation event to share ideas, gather feedback, and build enthusiasm for the project’s future.
Girvan Town Team is delighted to support local initiatives like The South, which empower residents to take an active role in shaping the town’s development and creating spaces for everyone to enjoy.
