Supporting Girvan’s Harbour Creel Christmas Tree Project
Girvan Town Team is pleased to support the Girvan Harbour Creel Christmas Tree Project by donating £100 to sponsor four creels for this meaningful community initiative.
Led in partnership by the Fishermen’s Mission and Ayrshire Roads Alliance, the project brings a striking Creel Christmas Tree to Girvan Harbour, a festive display rooted firmly in the town’s maritime heritage.
More Than a Festive Display
The Creel Christmas Tree was created not only to mark the festive season, but to shine a light on the fishing families who have long-standing connections to Girvan and continue to work from the harbour today. Importantly, the project is also raising funds and awareness for the Fishermen’s Mission, the only national charity dedicated solely to supporting fishermen and their families, providing vital help in times of need.
Local businesses and individuals were invited to sponsor creels, with names proudly displayed on the finished tree. The project also included fundraising for outdoor lighting, ensuring the tree can be enjoyed throughout the winter evenings.
A Community Effort
Thanks to widespread community support, the tree was completed successfully, including the installation of lighting, and now stands as a visible symbol of Girvan’s strong community spirit.
Girvan Town Team is proud to have played a small part in supporting a project that celebrates Girvan’s maritime identity, recognises local fishing families, and supports a charity doing essential work for those who rely on the sea for their livelihood.
